Sister Joan Theresa White (Helen James)

White, Sister Joan Theresa (Helen James) (86) died November 20, 2011 in Mount Lane, Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, NS. Born in Bathurst, NB, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Kerr) White. She entered the Sisters of Charity in Halifax in 1942 and made her Religious Profession in 1945. Sister Joan was a dedicated educator for over 34 years in New York, Bermuda, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. She was the Director of Elizabeth Seton Centre (House of Prayer) in Quebec for 24 years. She retired in 2003 and returned to Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse, Halifax Nova Scotia. She moved to Caritas Residence where she resided for 2 years before moving to Mount Lane, Parkstone Enhanced Care in October, 2010. She is survived by sister-in-law Joan Catherine White, NB as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Sister Mary (Mary Pauline) White and her brother Thomas E. White. The body will be in Caritas Residence, visitation Tuesday, November 22 from 3-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 23 at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Caritas Residence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS.
