Charity Alive Fund

The Sisters of Charity - Halifax receive many requests for financial assistance. In an effort to determine need and set priorities, a procedure has been established to review requests. Under the procedure, organizations are required to submit an application for funding. Completed applications are reviewed by the donation committee and their recommendations are forwarded to the Congregational Leadership Team for review.

Donation monies are distributed from the Charity Alive Fund - a fund that promotes the mission of the Sisters of Charity - Halifax. The Sisters of Charity - Halifax give joyful witness to love, stand on the side of the poor, and address unjust structures in a world wounded by violence and stripped of hope. The congregation especially encourages projects involving women and children.

Funds are granted on a one-year basis. Approval of a donation in a given year does not assume approval in subsequent years. Groups receiving funds must be accountable for money received from the congregation. Organizations are asked to submit a report or letter explaining how the funds were used within the year of receiving the donation.

Organizations seeking funds may download the Charity Alive Fund Application (Deadline August 27, 2010). It is available in both PDF (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded here) and RTF.

As indicated on the form, completed applications may be returned via fax (902-457-3506) or e-mail (nhurst@schalifax.ca). Typed re-creations of the form are accepted as long as all questions have been answered.

Funding decisions are made in Spring and Fall. If your application is received after the deadline indicated on the application, it will be held for the next Donation Committee meeting. If you would like email confirmation that your application has been received, there is a place to indicate that at the bottom of the application form. Please don't call about the status of your application - once the decision is made, you will be notified whether funding is granted or not.
