"Truly the Presence of the Lord is in this Place"

The following article appeared in the Dec 2007 / Jan 2008 issue of Charity Alive written by S. Mary Harrington.

“We are called to act with justice.
We are called to love tenderly.
We are called to serve one another.
To walk humbly with God.”
Micah 6:8

These four lines exemplify the life and spirit of Sister Agnes Catherine Coyle here at Mount Saint Vincent, Wellesley.

For the past 30+ years, S. Agnes Catherine has spent her life here at totally immersed in service to others. "...The love of Christ urges us to spend ourselves for others in union with him who is among us as one who serves.” (Constitutions #41) No one, anywhere, has fulfilled this mandate more than S. Agnes herself.

S. always goes that extra mile and well beyond. She is the very essence of compassion, goodness and kindness. Her total dedication and immeasurable service to the sick and the dying are awe-inspiring.
Day after day, hour after hour, moment after moment, she is present wherever and whenever there is a
need. She is often companion to the doctor's office, visiting our sick Sisters at Newton-Wellesley Hospital
and in Boston hospitals. Because S. Agnes does not drive, she often travels on public transit to visit
patients who are hospitalized beyond the confines of Wellesley.

S. Agnes spends long hours at the bedside of the sick and the dying. No one will ever die alone while
S. Agnes is around. She considers it a privilege to be present, as she so often is, when life gently fades away and Eternity begins.

S. Agnes always refers to that moment as “beautiful.” S. Agnes Catherine adds a new dimension to the words “total commitment.” “...In ministering to others we wish to enable them to share the fullness of life which Jesus came to give.” (Constitutions #42) She ministers as only she can, because she does it from her heart, rooted in her relationship with God. Those of us who are privileged to journey with S. Agnes are blessed. “Truly, the presence of the Lord is in this place”, especially in the person of S. Agnes Catherine Coyle. She has touched our lives, and we will never be the same.
