S. Nuala Kenny was co-chair and presenter at the Trauma and Transformation: The Catholic Church and the Sexual Abuse Crisis conference in October 2011.
The sexual abuse of children remains a deep-seated but largely concealed problem within human societies. The Catholic Church has emerged as the critical case study for the abuse of minors and children within institutional settings. The conference focused on the wealth of data and analysis generated from this crisis and attempted to glean the lessons learned in order to move the Church to the purification and renewal to which the Spirit is calling us.
Other presenters included Archbishop Anthony Mancini of Halifax, author Michael W. Higgins and NCR’s John Allen. Trauma and Transformation was hosted by McGill Universitys Centre for Research on Religion, Montreal, QC.
